Not many players can make the transition straight from college hockey to the NHL, but New York Islanders forward Anders Lee got a confidence boost on Tuesday when he scored his first NHL goal on his first shot, in his first period.
Lee had to battle Dustin Byfuglien to get past the Winnipeg Jets’ blueline and fire a shot that seemed to catch Jets goaltender Ondrej Pavelec off-guard. In fact, some will probably blame Pavelec for this one as much as they credit Lee.
You can see the goal below:
Lee’s goal was the Islanders’ first of the game en route to a 5-2 victory.
The 22-year-old signed with the Islanders after spending three seasons with Notre Dame. He was the team captain and finished the 2012-13 campaign with 20 goals and 38 points in 40 contests.
