The Windsor Spitfires have admitted to certain violations of the OHL’s Recruitment Policy and in return their punishment shall be less severe than originally announced, according to the Ontario Hockey League.
The league originally handed the Spitfires a $400,000 fine -- which CBC reported was a league record -- and stripped them of three first-round picks and an additional two second-round picks.
Originally the Spitfires “completely deny all accusations that have been put forward” and planned to “pursue all avenues of appeal.” However, with the punishment reduced, the Spitfires have opted not to appeal the decision.
Windsor will still be charged a $250,000 fine and lose four draft picks -- two first rounders and two second rounders.
The Spitfires have featured some great prospects that have made it into the NHL over the last few years, including Taylor Hall, Cam Fowler, Adam Henrique, Zack Kassian, and Ryan Ellis.
