Alex Ovechkin really, really wanted a new car.
That was the prize for whoever was selected last - and second last, as we found out - in the NHL All-Star Fantasy Draft. Ovechkin, the Washington Capitals star who has five goals in his last three games, lobbied early on to go as the final pick.
“I want to be last. I need a car,” he said, trying to make his case early in the proceedings.
That car was a Honda Accord. Imagine cruising to the rink in one of those, right? Stylish and sophisticated.

Alas, it was not to be.
With only three picks remaining in the draft, Ovechkin was finally taken off the board by Team Foligno, leaving Ryan Nugent-Hopkins and Filip Forsberg as the only two players left to be selected. In a classic twist, Nugent-Hopkins and Forsberg both received Honda Accords.
Ouch!
Maybe next year, Ovi.
