Washington Capitals forward Nicklas Backstrom underwent arthroscopic hip surgery and is expected to be ready for the start of training camp.
“Nicklas Backstrom underwent a successful arthroscopic surgery on his hip on Wednesday afternoon,” the Caps said in a statement. “Based on the nature of this procedure, we are confident that Nick will be completely healthy prior to the start of the 2015-16 regular season.”
According to Alex Prewitt of The Washington Post, the club will have a better idea of Backstrom’s recovery timetable when he begins rehab in a few weeks.
The 27-year-old had 18 goals and 78 points in 82 regular season games. He added three goals and five helpers in 14 playoff games.
