Ailing Avs won’t have MacKinnon, Duchene for next two games

Colorado Avalanche fans might have woken up and complained, “Could it get any worse?”

Well, it might get a little worse for a team whose playoff hopes are seriously dwindling after Saturday’s demoralizing 4-0 loss to the Minnesota Wild.

It turns out that the Avalanche won’t have Matt Duchene or Nathan MacKinnon for their two-game road trip, as the team announced on Sunday.

Those two games are against red-hot Central Division teams in the Nashville Predators and St. Louis Blues. Yikes.

On the bright side, it’s “only” two games, although there’s nothing saying that those two dynamic forwards will be available after that mini-trip.

The Avalanche watched as the Wild’s big-time forward Zach Parise made a big difference yesterday. Perhaps a part of them wonders how different this stretch drive might be if their young guns were 100 percent?
