BYU senior LB Zayne Anderson (shoulder) has been ruled out for the remainder of the season.
Cougars HC Kalani Sitake announced on Tuesday that Anderson would be undergoing season-ending surgery for an undisclosed issue. According to Jay Drew of the Salt Lake Tribune, the injury was likely initially sustained in BYU’s upset win over Wisconsin on Sept. 15. The 6-foot-2, 215-pounder subsequently sat out the next two games before managing a brief return against Utah State last Friday. He’s expected to take a redshirt for the campaign now that he’s been ruled out for good. This is a significant loss for BYU, as Thomas recorded 61 tackles a year ago -- 36 in four games this season -- with three passes intercepted over the past two seasons. Riggs Powell, Isaiah Kaufusi, Jackson Kaufusi and Max Tooley are all potential filler options at Sitake’s disposal with Thomas done until 2019.
