Cowboys signed QB Will Grier to their practice squad.
Grier was with the fringes of the Cowboys roster in 2022, but waived him at last cuts in 2023. The Eagles released him from the practice squad to give him a chance to play in Dallas, and there’s not a better depth chart for an aspiring third quarterback to look up to than Cooper Rush and Trey Lance. Grier has two career starts, both made in 2019, and is 29 years old.
  • PHI Quarterback #4
Eagles signed QB Will Grier, formerly of the Chargers, to a one-year contract.
Grier bounced around between the Bengals, Patriots, and Chargers in 2023, but didn’t play a down of football in the regular season. The former third-round pick hasn’t taken a regular season snap since 2019, and will face an uphill battle to make the Eagles’ 53-man roster this offseason. He’ll likely battle with Kenny Pickett for the backup job, but landing a spot on Philly’s practice squad seems like the best case scenario for him at this point.
  • FA Quarterback #8
    Chargers waived QB Max Duggan.
The team signed Will Grier off the Patriots’ practice squad to their active roster in a corresponding move. Per NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero, Duggan will be brought back on the Chargers’ practice squad if he clears waivers. Grier is now in line to serve as Easton Stick’s backup for the remainder of the season.
  • LAC Quarterback #19
Chargers signed QB Will Grier off of the Patriots’ practice squad.
Grier was drafted in the third round by the Carolina Panthers in 2019 and started two games that season, completing 28-of-52 passes for 228 yards with four interceptions and no touchdowns. He has not played another regular season NFL snap since. The Patriots signed Grier off the Bengals’ practice squad in September, but he did not appear in a game and was released Grier in late November. While he was expected to explore his options, he wound up returning to the Patriots before now being signed away by the Chargers, who are clearly looking for other options after watching Easton Stick under center against the Raiders last week. It’s unclear if Grier will be given a chance to get up to speed in time to compete for the starting job before Saturday’s game against the Bills, but it’s apparent that Chargers’ interim GM JoJo Wooden is not satisfied with Stick as their best option while Justin Herbert is out.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports the Patriots are re-signing Will Grier to the practice squad.
The Patriots are bringing back Grier just as quickly as they let him go. Right before their Week 12 game against the Giants, they released Grier and proceeded to let Mac Jones and Bailey Zappe battle it out. Unfortunately neither did well against a lowly Giants’ team and the Patriots quarterback room is now in shambles. Don’t be shocked if you see Grier in action soon, the last time we saw him he was having a solid preseason with the Cowboys.
  • NE Quarterback #10
Speaking Tuesday, Patriots HC Bill Belichick declined to name a starting QB for Week 12.
“I’ve told everybody to be ready to go,” Belichick said on Tuesday. Week 10’s benching of Mac Jones inevitably sparked rumors of an impending quarterback change, but after more than a week, the team has yet to announce who they’ll be rolling with in Week 12. Reports are Mac Jones has continued to take the most reps with the first team offense, but some have suggested the team will decide on the starter based on how practices goes this week. The book isn’t entirely closed on Jones remaining the starter, but he’s also a big part of the reason the Patriots currently sit at 2-8 on the season. If it’s not Jones drawing the start, it will likely come down to Bailey Zappe or Will Grier, who are both on the 53-man roster. Rookie Malik Cunningham, who is currently on the practice squad, would be the other option.

Boston Sports Journal’s Greg Bedard reports the Patriots could turn to QB Will Grier as their starter if Mac Jones gets benched.
“From talking to people around the team, I think if Mac Jones doesn’t succeed this week, if he doesn’t retain his job, I think it’s Will Grier’s.” The Patriots don’t view Bailey Zappe as an upgrade on Jones, who has six turnovers in the last two weeks. Grier hasn’t started since 2019 but had a strong preseason, throwing for over 600 yards while completing 76% of his passes. Practice squad QB/WR Malik Cunningham could also be an option for the Patriots if Jones loses the job.
  • NE Quarterback #7
    Patriots signed QB Will Grier.
The quarterback is being plucked off the Bengals’ practice squad, leaving Cincinnati without a No. 2 quarterback for Monday evening against the Rams should Joe Burrow (calf) be sidelined. It is perhaps a sign Burrow will go. A cynic might note New England’s signing coincides with facing Grier’s ex-team the Cowboys in 10 days.
  • CIN Quarterback #15
Bengals signed QB Will Grier, formerly of the Cowboys.
Grier could eventually become Joe Burrow’s backup at some point this season, but for now, he’ll get a chance to continue developing as a player. Grier threw for 640 yards, four touchdowns, and two interceptions this preseason and rushed for another 60 yards and two scores. The former third-round pick has been on the long road to NFL glory, but has shown steady improvement every year he’s been in the league. In addition to Grier, the Bengals also signed DB Michael Thomas to the practice squad.
  • DAL Quarterback #14
Cowboys declared QB Will Grier, LB Jabril Cox, CB Nahshon Wright, S Markquese Bell, and DT Quinton Bohanna inactive for Week 13 against the Colts.
The most notable player to be listed as questionable was wide receiver Michael Gallup, who is active and will play against the Colts. Dak and the Cowboys will have a full compliment of weapons as they look to keep pace with the Eagles and Vikings in the race for the only bye out of the NFC.
