Demps fits the Raven’s 46 defense perfectly. With all the mismatches the 46 defense creates, Demps will be able to roam free, which should raise Demps’ stats considerably.

With Jason Simmons’ season over due to a torn left patella tendon, the Texans had just three safeties on the active roster. Demps suffered through an injury plagued 2006 season with the Giants before being released at the end of camp. He is likely to back up Von Hutchins at free safety initially.

Demps, who signed a five-year, $12 million in the 2006 offseason, was plagued by injuries and poor play in his one year as a Giant. He is coming off a dislocated elbow and has a month before he’ll be able to pass a physical.

He’ll probably be sidelined for a few weeks. Demps has been working as the Giants’ third safety at camp, behind starters James Butler and Gibril Wilson.

Butler has been a steady reserve the past two seasons and is in the hunt to overtake Will Demps, who was a major free agent disappointment in 2006.

Stone’s spot is now likely to go to Michael Johnson or J.R. Reed. With third S Will Demps injured, the winner could see playing time during the first week or two. The team also released rookie WR Marco Thomas and signed LB Karibi Dede.

Demps had been working as the Giants’ third-string safety, but a dislocated elbow was supposed to sideline him for a few weeks. Still, it’s a surprising cut for the Giants’ struggling secondary. He received an injury settlement.

He could form a three-man rotation with James Butler and Gibril Wilson the way things are looking now. Demps isn’t guaranteed his starting job back.

Following Dunta Robinson’s season ending torn ACL and hamstring, former FS starter Von Hutchins has moved back to corner. He’ll likely play the nickel behind Petey Faggins and Fred Bennett. Demps is a decent IDP pickup.

Demps started eight games last season and played well down the stretch. He figures to remain the Texans starting free safety after reviving his career with the team. Demps’ retention will allow C.C. Brown to stay closer to the line of scrimmage. It’ll be a boon to his IDP value.
