Joe Gibbs said he was committed to the Redskins for at least five seasons today.
''I signed a five-year contract when I came here,’' Gibbs told a news conference Monday. ''Most people sign three-year contracts. My commitment to the Redskins, I want to do every single thing I can to restore the Redskins to winning football games.’'

The Washington Redskins are likely to face the Denver Broncos in the Hall of Fame game on Aug. 9.
Only 6 months and 7 days until NFL games, albeit preseason. Stick with Rotoworld this offseason for expanded multiple columns a week coverage of offseason football news.

The Redskins are expected to easily break the NFL record for highest payroll in 2004.
They are expected to fall between $110-$120 million. The record mark is $102 million, set by the Denver Broncos in 2001. Who needs a salary cap when you’ve got Daniel Snyder?

The Redskins have reportedly told assistant head coach Al Saunders to look for work elsewhere after hiring Jim Zorn as offensive coordinator.
A return to St. Louis? The Rams are searching for a new play caller after firing Greg Olson. The Raiders could also be interested in Saunders, assuming the 60-year-old former wide receivers guru doesn’t intend to retire.

The Redskins haven’t scored 20 points in a game this season.
They also set the NFL record in payroll this season.

Sources tell the Washington Post that the Redskins are “seriously considering” a contract extension with coach Mike Shanahan.
Shanahan’s current five-year contract is up following the 2014 season. During his first two-plus seasons in Washington, he went 14-27 and appeared to be on thin ice. An extension at this point would be a reward for the current seven-game winning streak that netted the Redskins the NFC East crown and a home playoff game Sunday afternoon.

Redskins OC Kyle Shanahan is “definitely” interested in interviewing for head coaching jobs, but will not field inquiries until after the playoffs.
Kyle joked about previous reports that his father will not allow him to interview for other jobs during the post season. No teams have contacted his agent because he doesn’t have one. “I haven’t answered my phone in six months,” said the younger Shanahan. The upshot is that Kyle isn’t attached to Mike’s hip and would embrace the opportunity to run his own team.

Joe Gibbs, half-joking, said his time in football “will be short.”
My time in football will be short. And if we don’t win a few more games next year, it may be real short!” Gibbs said laughing while speaking to NASCAR press Tuesday.

The Redskins are reportedly being investigated for violations of offseason workout rules.
They reportedly have been engaging in 1-on-1 drills, which is not allowed under the collective bargaining agreement. This would be a fitting cap to a nightmarish offseason in Washington.

ESPN’s John Clayton reports the Redskins are not expected to offer Steve Mariucci their head coaching job.
Clayton says the Redskins spoke with Mooch late this week, but it appears that may have just been to please the fan base. Clayton fully expects Jim Fassel to be named to the position next week, although owner Dan Snyder still has to interview Giants defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo.
