The former Bears starter would replace Jeremiah Trotter.

He’s pushing third-year pro Kevin Bentley. Coach Butch Davis was impressed with Holdman’s effort in a scrimmage this weekend.

“His suddenness without pads on is excellent,” defensive coordinator Gregg Williams said. Holdman, 30, was a solid starter earlier in his career and has a chance to be a major IDP sleeper if he can hold of Rocky McIntosh for the starting weak-side job. The Redskins often bring their rookies along slowly.

Williams added that rookie Rocky McIntosh (knee surgery) and Chris Clemons are “breathing right down his neck.” McIntosh will return in training camp, when this battle should heat up.

He’s probably the most qualified candidate to replace Antonio Pierce. Whether it’s Holdman or Lemar Marshall, the MLB spot in Washington has huge upside.

He’s an IDP factor if Arrington can’t get healthy.

Holdman could miss the entire season on IR or reach an injury settlement with the team and be released. “Right now it’s a little hard to say what we are going to do,” Head Coach Mike Shanahan said. “We’re talking to his agent, we’re talking to his doctors.”

D.D. Lewis, Warrick Holdman, and Webster make up the competition now, with Eddie Moore on I.R. Webster is more likely to back up MLB D.J. Williams.

The Associated Press reports that Holdman had movement in his arms and legs, but there was no initial report on the severity of the injury. The AP report says Holdman “appeared to hit the crown of his helmet on another player’s helmet”. He was down for eight minutes before being taken off the field.

The long-term prognosis isn’t clear, but the team should update his status at some point on Friday. He was battling Nate Webster and D.D. Lewis for the starting LB spot on the strong side.
