Vernon Davis announced his retirement after 14 seasons.
Davis announced his retirement via a commercial with Rob Gronkowski. Davis played four games this season before suffering a concussion and landing on IR. He posted 7,562 yards on 583 receptions in his 14-year career which included a decade in San Francisco. Davis still holds the 40-yard dash record for a tight end at 4.38 seconds. He maintained that unreal athleticism throughout his long career. With Davis gone and Jordan Reed missing all of 2019 due to a concussion, Washington will look to free agency and the draft to fill their glaring hole at the tight end position.
  • WAS Tight End #85
Redskins placed TE Vernon Davis (concussion) on injured reserve.
The Redskins curiously kept Davis on the active roster all season even though he hasn’t suited up since Week 4. Third-string TE Jeremy Sprinkle doesn’t have more than two catches in a game this season. Terry McLaurin remains the only fantasy-viable pass catcher in this offense at the moment.
  • WAS Tight End #85
Vernon Davis (concussion) is out for Week 11 against the Jets.
Davis remains week to week and has showed few signs that he’s nearing a return. Terry McLaurin is the only Redskins’ pass-catcher on the fantasy radar right now.
  • WAS Tight End #85
Vernon Davis (concussion) has been ruled out for the Redskins’ Week 9 matchup against the Bills.
Davis has been limited in practice for weeks now, but remains in the protocol and won’t suit up Sunday. Jeremy Sprinkle has a brutal matchup against one of just six defenses allowing fewer than 40 receiving yards per game to opposing TEs.
  • WAS Tight End #85
Vernon Davis (concussion) is inactive for Week 8 against the Vikings.
Davis hasn’t played since Week 4. Also inactive for the Redskins are QB Colt McCoy, RB Chris Thompson, S Deshazor Everett, S Montae Nicholson, LB Josh Harvey-Clemons and OG Wes Martin.
  • WAS Tight End #85
Vernon Davis (concussion) was listed as a limited participant in Monday’s practice.
The Redskins didn’t actually practice Monday, but are required to submit an estimated injury report. Davis was limited in practice all of last week and ultimately didn’t suit up Sunday. Even if active, Davis will likely split snaps and targets with Jeremy Sprinkle in the Redskins’ run-first offense. The entire offense has a brutal road matchup against the Vikings on a short week. It’s best to look elsewhere for a streamer option at TE.
  • WAS Tight End #85
Vernon Davis (concussion) is out for Week 7 against the 49ers.
Davis was limited in practice all week long, but he’s still not ready to make a return. Perhaps that changes next week. The Redskins will also be without RB Chris Thompson, which puts even more pressure on breakout rookie WR Terry McLaurin.
  • WAS Tight End #85
Vernon Davis (concussion) was limited in Wednesday and Thursday’s practices.
It gives Davis a shot at returning after missing Weeks 5 and 6. The Redskins are really hurting for passing-game options behind excellent rookie Terry McLaurin. Davis will be a lower-end TE2 if he suits up. Davis is always capable of hitting a big play, but Case Keenum will be under siege vs. the 49ers’ elite defensive line.
  • WAS Tight End #85
Vernon Davis (concussion) has been ruled out for the Redskins’ Week 6 matchup against the Dolphins.
Jordan Reed (concussion) is also sidelined. Jeremy Sprinkle posted a meh 46% snap rate and saw just three targets in Week 5 despite benefiting from the absence of both TEs. The offense instead utilized more 4-WR sets than usual with electric pint-sized rookie Steven Sims playing more snaps last week (32) than he did in Weeks 1-4 combined (21).
  • WAS Tight End #85
Vernon Davis (concussion) practiced again Thursday.
Davis remains in the league’s concussion protocol, though he’s trending toward a Week 6 return. Already without Jordan Reed (concussion), the shorthanded Skins turned to Jeremy Sprinkle at tight end in last week’s loss to New England.
