Vernon Carey is expected to get his first NFL start at New England on Sunday.
The first round pick has been a huge disappoinment. He’ll replace injured right tackle John St. Clair. Should be a nice day for New England’s defense.

First-round pick Vernon Carey will likely start the season as a reserve at tackle.
The team is moving Carey back to right tackle, where they wanted him to begin with. Considering Miami’s offensive line problems, it really hurts that they made a weak draft pick here. GM Rick Spielman may not keep his job for long if this season doesn’t go well.

The Dolphins will give 2004 first-rounder Vernon Carey a shot at taking over the starting left tackle job next year.
He was a total bust as a rookie. But the Dolphins feel that looking for the position in free agency would be too expensive. They also asked T Damion McIntosh to take a paycut or be released.

Dolphins RG Vernon Carey left Sunday’s game against the Browns with a shoulder injury.
Carey’s arm appeared to get caught in the pile and possibly hyperextended as he went down. Consider the 2004 first-rounder questionable to return, with John Jerry on at right guard for now.
  • FA Quarterback #4
Chad Henne is on pace to take 59 sacks this season.
Henne has never had great pocket presence, but LG Richie Incognito admits the offensive line has been a major problem. It’s not just on washed-up RT Marc Colombo, who leads the NFL in QB pressures allowed (13). Pro Bowl LT Jake Long has already allowed four sacks, and RG Vernon Carey has allowed five pressures and five hits. Long will improve; the other two will likely stay shaky all season.

One week after reporting the Dolphins would “probably” re-sign free agent RG Vernon Carey, the Palm Beach Post now considers Carey a “longshot” to return.
The Post is now on board with the South Florida Sun-Sentinel, which reported in January that “Carey’s value is much higher elsewhere than in South Florida.” A liability on passing downs last season, Carey is unlikely to draw much interest as a starter going into his age-31 campaign.

Vernon Carey is inactive for tonight’s game.
The Dolphins picked the wrong season to pick a bust offensive lineman in the first round.

Dolphins RG Vernon Carey (ankle) is inactive for Sunday’s game against the Raiders.
Replacement-level talent G John Jerry will start in his place. This certainly won’t help Reggie Bush, but the Raiders are among the league’s worst teams against the run. RB Steve Slaton, LB Ikaika Alama-Francis, T Will Barker, G Ray Feinga, TE Will Yeatman, and DT Ryan Baker join him on the inactive list.

According to the Palm Beach Post, the Dolphins will “probably” re-sign free agent RG Vernon Carey.
This directly contradicts a South Florida Sun-Sentinel report from January, which said “Carey’s value is much higher elsewhere than in South Florida.” The Post reports Carey does not want to leave Miami, which is his hometown, and that he will “come reasonably priced.” We trust the Post more.

Dolphins RG Vernon Carey did not return to the game Thursday after limping off with a left ankle injury in the fourth quarter.
Carey wore a protective pad after the game, but did not require the use of crutches while walking to the team bus. Carey has improved gradually in his debut season at guard. Swing man Nate Garner will fill in next week if Carey can’t play.
