    Bengals waived DT Tyler Shelvin.
The former fourth-round pick played in three games as a rookie. He produced just five combined tackles on 49 defensive snaps. Shelvin’s lack of mobility makes him a two-down option at his ceiling, but he still has work to do to become an NFL-caliber run-stuffer.

  • FA Defensive Lineman #99
Bengals selected LSU DT Tyler Shelvin with the No. 122 overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft.
Shelvin (6'3/346) is your standard behemoth sized zero-tech designed to take on double teams and plug running lanes. A former four-star prospect, the massive tackle was rated as the top overall recruit in the state of Louisiana from the 2017 prep cycle. Shelvin battled weight issues and was reported by LSU HC Ed Orgeron to be up to 375 pounds. This news raised eyebrows regarding conditioning concerns in light of Shelvin opting out of the 2020 season so no one has seen him in a game setting since before the pandemic. He’s a one-dimensional, two-down anchor that is as hefty as they come while being unusually nimble for his mammoth stature. Just don’t expect him to push the pocket as he recorded just nine quarterback pressures in 393 career pass rush snaps according to PFF. The big space-eating nose tackle evokes memories of former Broncos legend Terrance Knighton.
