Seahawks GM John Schneider did not rule out the possibility of re-signing WR Tyler Lockett.
When asked about the possibility of a reunion, Schneider said he told Lockett to “go out and see what’s shaking (on the market), and we’ll stay in touch.” Lockett, 32, is coming off his least productive season since 2017 and hasn’t surpassed 1,000 yards since 2022. While he can still help a team, there’s no doubt the 10-year vet is on the downturn of his career. Any team that pursues him will likely do so with a fringe WR2/WR3 role in mind, which may not lead to a level of production that looks too different from last season. A reunion with the Seahawks may prove to be the best thing for Lockett, but he’ll have a chance in the coming days to test his value on the market to see how teams view him.

    Seahawks released WR Tyler Lockett.
Lockett has been a face of the franchise for a decade, but his contract was completely untenable for the Seahawks. He had a cap hit of nearly $31 million for 2025 before being released. The move nets Seattle $17 million in cap space and leaves them with a dead cap hit of $13.9 million. Lockett has already said he plans to play in 2025. At 32 years old and coming off a down year that saw him record a measly 600 yards, he will likely be stuck with a one or two-year deal in free agency. Lockett is best suited to part-time WR3 duties on his next team.
  • SEA Wide Receiver #16
Seahawks coach Mike Macdonald said the Seahawks are “working through” whether Tyler Lockett will be on the roster in 2025.
It wasn’t exactly a glowing endorsement, in other words. Lockett turns 33 in September and is due a $30.8 million cap figure in 2025. Releasing Lockett would save the Seahawks $17 million against the salary cap. That cap number is untenable for a receiver who wasn’t targeted more than five times in a game after mid-October. It’s possible the Seahawks work out a pay cut for Lockett, but if not, they will likely move forward with Jaxon Smith-Njigba as the main cog of their passing game.
  • SEA Wide Receiver #16
Tyler Lockett caught 2-of-4 targets for 28 yards in the Seahawks’ Week 18 win against the Rams.
Lockett in 2024 faded into the distant WR3 background this season behind Jaxon Smith-Njigba and DK Metcalf. The 32-year-old wideout had just three games with more than four receptions and five games with more than 60 yards. He saw a meager 13 percent target share and was a distant third in air yards behind Metcalf and JSN. Sunday’s win against the Rams may have been Lockett’s last game with the Seahawks. The veteran has said he wants to continue his NFL career, but could be released by Seattle in a cap-saving move before June 1. Wherever he ends up in 2025, Lockett’s fantasy-relevant days are likely in the rearview.
  • SEA Wide Receiver #16
Seahawks WR Tyler Lockett said “I plan on playing next year” when asked about his future.
Lockett is in the final year of a four-year extension he signed back in April 2021. The 32-year-old vet has taken a back seat to both DK Metcalf and second-year receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba this season and only has 47 receptions for 572 yards and two touchdowns to his name. By the time the Seahawks’ season concludes in Week 18 against the Rams, Lockett will have had his worst statistical season since 2017, and will have gone under 100 targets for the first time since 2018. Far from the player he once was, Lockett won’t turn 33 until September, and could still bring reliable hands along with a veteran presence to any team in need of help on the outside. Whether or not he returns to the Seahawks will be decided after the season but there’s a chance Sunday’s game against the Rams may be his last in his 10 year career with the Seahawks.
  • SEA Wide Receiver #16
Tyler Lockett caught 3-of-4 passes for 20 yards in the Seahawks’ Week 17 win over the Bears.
The Seahawks targetted Tyler Lockett on the first offensive play of the game on a three-yard connection, but for the rest of the game he was used as he has been for the overwhelming majority of 2025. Lockett was once a fantasy stalwart, but the 32-year-old has no value heading into the season finale against the Rams.
  • SEA Wide Receiver #16
Tyler Lockett caught both of his targets for 19 yards in the Seahawks’ Week 16 loss against the Vikings.
Lockett has been all but invisible in the Seattle offense since late October, failing to crack 30 receiving yards over his past three games. He has just two touchdowns on the season as the Seahawks’ distant No. 3 receiver. Lockett is only fantasy viable in the deepest formats.
  • SEA Wide Receiver #16
Tyler Lockett caught his lone target for 22 yards in the Seahawks’ Week 15 loss to the Packers.
Lockett has been almost entirely phased out of the offense with the emergence of Jaxon Smith-Njigba, the latter of whom saw a robust 12 targets in the loss to the Packers. Fantasy managers that were clinging to hope with the rugged veteran can surely cut ties as the fantasy playoffs surge on.
  • SEA Wide Receiver #16
Tyler Lockett did not catch his lone target in the Seahawks’ Week 14 win against the Cardinals.
Lockett logged a pass route on 28 of Geno Smith’s 31 drop backs but couldn’t manage more than one look against Arizona. Lockett, who has two touchdowns on the season, now has a grand total of 55 receiving yards over his past four games. He can be safely left on the waiver wire ahead of the Seahawks’ Week 15 matchup against Green Bay.
  • SEA Wide Receiver #16
Tyler Lockett caught 3-of-3 targets for 16 yards in the Seahawks’ Week 13 win over the Jets.
Lockett has now been held to 20-or-fewer yards in four of his past five appearances. Long one of the league’s ageless wonders, Lockett has now fallen miles behind DK Metcalf and Jaxon Smith-Njigba for targets relevance. Lockett is waiver wire fodder for the season’s stretch run.
