The Las Vegas Review-Journal’s Vincent Bonsignore reports Tommy Mellott could be used as a receiver, running back, and quarterback in 2025.
Mellott was described by one NFL general manager as the next Julian Edelman, a quarterback-turned-wideout who served as a key cog in the Patriots’ passing offense under Tom Brady, who now works in the Raiders front office. “I wouldn’t pigeonhole him right now,” Raiders college scouting director Brandon Yeargan said of Mellott, the Montana State product taken with the 213th pick in the 2025 draft. “I would say we view him as a receiver that’s going to have a lot of value in the kicking game, potentially as a returner, as a cover player, maybe play some quarterback, too. We’re looking (at him) really as an athlete/receiver, but he’s a unique guy.” Mellott, who threw for 6,016 yards and ran for 3,517 yards during his collegiate career, could be fantasy relevant in 2025 if he becomes a consistent part of the team’s Geno Smith-led offense.

Raiders selected Montana State WR Tommy Mellott with the No. 213 overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft.
Mellott was a high school quarterback who briefly played receiver for Montana State before returning to his natural position during the FCS playoffs. He took over as the full-time starter in his next season and never gave up the gig, posting a 33-8 record under center. He threw for 6,016 yards and ran for 3,517 yards in his career. Mellott is returning to receiver in the pros and was drafted by a Raiders team partially owned by Tom Brady. This, of course, has earned him the Julian Edelman comparison. While there aren’t many examples of this transition working, Mellott’s 9.68 RAS, headline by a 4.39 Forty, gives him the athleticism necessary to learn a new position in Vegas.
