Raiders coach Tom Cable suggested Monday that the team may make depth chart changes at wide receiver.
The coaching staff counted eight drops in Week 6, and though some were borderline, Javon Walker and Ronald Curry simply haven’t gotten it done. Curry needs to be in the slot and Walker should be on the bench. Rookie Chaz Schilens and impressive practice player Todd Watkins deserve shots.
  • PHI Wide Receiver
Johnnie Lee Higgins is reportedly the best bet to open the season as the Raiders No. 3 receiver.
Todd Watkins may have earned the No. 4 job with a strong camp while Chaz Schilens may be the favorite for the No. 5 job. Rookie Arman Shields (knee, hamstring) is in danger of being placed on injured reserve or the practice squad. This could be the worst bench in the league.
  • NYG Wide Receiver
Raiders claimed WR Todd Watkins off waivers from the Falcons.
Oakland has just two wideouts with any experience under contract. Watkins (6'2/191) was highly productive with John Beck at BYU, but hasn’t cracked an active roster yet. As it stands, he’ll have a good shot with the Raiders.
  • NYG Wide Receiver
Receiver Todd Watkins is making a “serious run” to make the Raiders.
He still has to beat out Chaz Schilens and Arman Shields, but Watkins has had a huge start to camp and the coaches are high on his potential. He’s someone to watch due to Oakland’s other lackluster receiver options.
  • NYG Wide Receiver
Raiders declared WR Todd Watkins, LB Jon Alston, WR Nick Miller, OT Erik Pears, OT Khalif Barnes, third QB Charlie Frye, WR Javon Walker, and DT Willie Joseph inactive for Week 11.
JaMarcus Russell will back up new starter Bruce Gradkowski, who may be on a short leash. All three of Oakland’s top tailbacks are active. Michael Bush is expected to start, but will rotate with Justin Fargas and Darren McFadden.
  • NYG Wide Receiver
Raiders declared WR Todd Watkins, S Rashad Baker, T James Marten, C John Wade, TE John Madsen, TE Ben Troupe and Marques Tuiasosopo (3rd QB) inactive Sunday.
No important inactives for Oakland. Ronald Curry will be coming off the bench for the Raiders. Justin Fargas should start at running back.
  • NYG Wide Receiver
Raiders released WR Todd Watkins, WR Shaun Bodiford, FB Manase Tonga, TE John Owens, CB Joe Porter, and DT Kellen Heard.
Watkins caught eight passes for 90 yards in 13 games with Oakland last seasons. The Raiders have only dregs behind Louis Murphy and Darrius Heyward-Bey right now, which doesn’t say much for Watkins or Bodiford.
  • NYG Wide Receiver
Cardinals signed seventh-round WR Todd Watkins to a three-year contract.
Watkins is a vertical threat from BYU who suprisingly fell in the draft. He needs to add pounds, but looks like a decent bet to make Arizona’s roster as a fifth or sixth receiver.
  • SEA Wide Receiver
The Cardinals depth chart at wide receiver beyond the top three seems to be changing daily, according to offensive coordinator Todd Haley.
Sean Morey seems like a logical fit to make the club because he’s an excellent special teams player and Steve Breaston’s skills as a return man help his stock. Todd Watkins and Micheal Spurlock could get cut.
  • NYG Wide Receiver
    Cardinals released WR Todd Watkins.
Watkins has the measurables but was drafted into a deep position last year by Dennis Green. He’s a candidate for the practice squad or to land elsewhere.
