Panthers punter Todd Saurbrun was arrested for a DWI Wednesday night.
He was leaving a team party and still went to Panthers practice today.
  • The Denver Post confirms the report that punter Todd Sauerbrun will be suspended four games for testing positive for ephedra.
At this point, we expect profootballtalk.com to break news before big media. Sauerbrun should be able to participate in training camp, but will probably miss the first four games of the season barring appeals.
  • Todd Sauerbrun has informed the Broncos he plans to appeal the four-game suspension.
Sauerbrun would lose $328,235 of his $1.395 million next season should the four-game suspension be upheld. Paul Ernster, who led the nation as a college senior in 2004 with a 47.8-yard punting average, and Jason Elam are options to fill in for Sauerbrun.
  • Profootballtalk.com reports Broncos P Todd Sauerbrun has been suspended by the NFL for the opening four games of the 2006 season.
Sources tell PFT that Sauerbrun tested positive for ephedra, a substance banned by the league following the 2003 death of former Vikings tackle Korey Stringer. In 2005, Sauerbrun was accused of using steroids. Jeff Williams is Sauerbrun’s backup.
  • Todd Sauerbrun practiced Friday and was upgraded from questionable to probable.
Sauerbrun suffered a strained quadriceps last week. His presence could be key in a field position game against the Rams.
  • Panthers’ punter Todd Sauerbrun, center Jeff Mitchell, and former offensive tackle Todd Steussie have been identified as players who had steroid prescriptions filled by a South Carolina doctor, according to a CBS ‘’60 Minutes’’ television report.
According to the report, the doctor in question, Dr. James Shortt, gave all three players perscriptions for testosterone cream within two weeks of the Panthers appearance in the 2004 Super Bowl. If a punter on steroids doesn’t indicate there’s a problem, perhaps nothing will. Stay tuned for further developments.
  • Sauerbrun goes back on earlier comments. After being identified as one of 3 Panthers players who had steroid prescriptions refilled in the 2004 season, CBS News contacted Sauerbrun and asked him about his relationship with James Shortt, a South Carolina physician who is accused of writing the prescriptions for the three Panthers. Sauerbrun told CBS that he liked Shortt ''very much.’' He then called back 10 minutes later and told the reporter that he didn’t know Shortt and that he had been confused.
He obviously thought CBS meant Martin Gramatica. Punters using steroids. Sad.
  • The Broncos have reached a verbal agreement on a new contract for Todd Sauerbrun.
The self proclaimed Hall of Famer punter should be scary in Denver’s thin air. Sauerbrun is signed for the next three years, and was reportedly looking for some salary to be converted into a signing bonus.
  • The Carolina Panthers have traded punter Todd Sauerbrun to the Denver Broncos for punter Jason Baker and a seventh-round pick in 2006.
Sauerbrun should benefit from the fresh start and the thin air in Denver. His possible steroid use aside, Sauerbrun’s potential in the thin Denver air is downright scary.
  • Todd Sauerbrun plead guilty to a DWI stemming from a December incident.
He was placed on a year’s unsupervised probation and fined $100. He should not face any league suspension.
