NC State junior S Tanner Ingle, junior DT Alim McNeil, sophomore LB Drake Thomas and redshirt sophomore LB Payton Wilson have all opted out of Saturday’s Gator Bowl matchup with Kentucky.
The last thing that NC State needed heading into this matchup was to be without key starters on either side of the football. The Wolfpack will be down four defensive starters, a list that includes players who rank first (Wilson), fourth (Thomas) and ninth (Ingle) on the team in total tackles. Three of the four have started at least ten games this season, with Ingle (seven) being the exception.

NC State junior S Tanner Ingle was ejected from Saturday’s game at Virginia for targeting.
Ingle (5'10/188) delivered a helmet-to-helmet hit on QB Brennan Armstrong after the signal-caller was out of bounds, and as a result he’s done for the day. Since the penalty occurred during the first half the junior safety will not have to miss any game time beyond the remainder of Saturday’s game.

  • LAR Safety #34
NC State junior S Tanner Ingle (undisclosed) continues to work towards making a return to the lineup.
Ingle (5'10/188) was NC State’s second-leading tackler last season, and the expectation heading into the 2020 campaign was that he would be even better. But the junior safety, who was named one of the team captains during fall camp, has been out of the lineup due to injury. HC Dave Doeren said on Monday that he’s hopeful that Ingle will be available when the Wolfpack visit Pittsburgh Saturday, but that’s no sure thing. NC State has been hit hard by injuries at safety this season, as Khalid Martin and Rakiem Ashford both left their loss at Virginia Tech due to injury.
