  • LAR Guard #73
Rams G Steve Avila (MCL) recently underwent surgery and hopes to return in November.
Sean McVay indicated Avila opted for an MCL repair in order to “accelerate his recovery.” The Rams hope to make a Super Bowl run this year despite their myriad offensive injuries.
  • LAR Wide Receiver #17
Rams coach Sean McVay said Puka Nacua (knee) could miss more than four games while on injured reserve.
McVay said Nacua, Steve Avila, and Joe Noteboom all have “unique” injuries that could keep them out longer than the minimum of four games on injured reserve. It’s an ominous update for fantasy managers who took Nacua at the end of the first round. He suffered a sprained right PCL in the Rams’ Week 1 loss to the Lions after injuring the same knee during training camp. The Rams will pepper Cooper Kupp with targets until Nacua returns, putting him in the top half of the WR1 ranks going forward. Demarcus Robinson, now the team’s No. 2 receiver, is now a viable WR4.
  • LAR Tackle #70
Rams placed LT Joe Noteboom (ankle) on injured reserve.
The team also placed left guard Steve Avila on injured reserve. Noteboom was carted to the locker room in the second quarter of the Rams’ Week 1 loss to the Lions. Sean McVay later told reporters he was dealing with a high-ankle injury. Avila suffered an MCL sprain. The earlier either player can return is Week 7. Right tackle Rob Havenstein right tackle is day-to-day with a less severe ankle injury. The string of offensive line injuries is somewhere between concerning and disastrous for a less-than-mobile Matthew Stafford. To no one’s surprise, the Rams should rely heavily upon Cooper Kupp to carry the offense in the coming weeks.
  • LAR Center #63
Rams signed C Dylan McMahon from the Eagles’ practice squad
McMahon’s agent Whitney Holtzman broke the news on her Twitter account. McMahon was a sixth-round pick out of NC State this year and has the ability to play all three interior offensive line spots. The Rams are looking to add depth to the interior of their line after losing starting guard Steve Avila to an MCL sprain in Week 1 against the Lions.
  • LAR Guard #73
Rams selected TCU OG Steve Avila with the No. 36 overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft.
The Rams’ highest draft pick since 2016, Avila (6'3/332) is known for his intangibles. Team captain and offensive line linchpin, Avila helped the Horned Frogs all the way to the college football playoff in 2022. Asked to fill a variety of roles during his near half decade in Forth Worth, Avila didn’t ask questions and simply produced at both guard spots as well as center. The accolades match these traits, as Avila was a consensus All-American by most outlets and unanimously All-Big 12. Avila epitomizes a brick wall. Once Avila was set, defenders like Siaki Ika struggled to get around him while knowing full well that going through is also a futile endeavor. When he wins, he always maintains his body and play leverage. He could stand to improve his punches as they can be errant in timing and placement on occasion.
