Cardinals signed TE Stephen Anderson, formerly of the Chargers, to a one-year contract.
Anderson is primarily a blocker and contributor on special teams. He logged 345 snaps on offense last year but only caught 16 passes. With Zach Ertz playing a considerable role as a pass-catcher, Anderson will compete with Maxx Williams for blocking reps in Arizona.

  • FA Tight End #87
Chargers added TE Jared Cook to the reserve/COVID list.
With TE Donald Parham still in the concussion protocol, Stephen Anderson is in line to start at tight end. Anderson has only run 81 routes this season, far lower than Cook’s 424, and honestly too low to draw any major conclusions from. Still, Anderson has 18 targets this season for a healthy 22% target rate. The floor is non-existent but Anderson is in play as a TD-dependent dart throw.

  • Tight End #40
    Chargers re-signed TE Stephen Anderson.
Anderson played 66% of his snaps on special teams last year, primarily serving as the team’s blocking tight end. He’ll be used as such again with both Jared Cook and Donald Parham available as pass catchers.

  • Tight End #40
NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero reports the Chargers are hoping to re-sign TE Stephen Anderson.
Anderson was non-tendered earlier this month. The blocking tight end played 66% of his snaps on special teams last year. Anderson could be brought back by the Chargers at a lower salary.

  • FA Tight End #89
Donald Parham caught 2-of-3 targets for 47 yards in the Chargers’ Week 16 win over the Broncos.
With Hunter Henry (COVID-19) sidelined, The 6'8" XFL legend played 81 percent of the Bolts’ offensive snaps, getting 20 snaps in the slot or out wide. It was the perfect usage for those who streamed Parham, but didn’t generate a whole lot of opportunity. Stephen Anderson, who caught four of six targets for 48 yards, operated as the team’s top pass catching tight end with Henry out. Anderson would seem to be the safer streaming option in Week 17 if Henry can’t return from the reserve/COVID-19 list.

  • Tight End #40
    Chargers waived TE Stephen Anderson.
Anderson was brought in to help fill the Hunter Henry void, but Anderson will leave Los Angeles without a catch. Henry is almost back to full health and could even try to make a return on Sunday Night Football. In a corresponding move, the Chargers signed WR Jason Moore to the active roster.
  • Tight End #40
Chargers promoted TE Stephen Anderson from the practice squad.
The ex-Pat is taking the roster spot of Sean Culkin (Achilles, injured reserve). Culkin is a blocker, though Anderson has always been more of a pass catcher. Even with Hunter Henry (knee) without a return timeline, Anderson is highly unlikely to emerge on the fantasy radar.
  • Tight End #40
    Patriots waived TE Stephen Anderson.
Anderson has long been hyped as a pass-catching tight end, but it hasn’t worked out in both Houston and New England. He’s running out of chances.
  • Tight End #40
Patriots declared TE Stephen Anderson, OL James Ferentz, S Obi Melifonwu, DE Ufomba Kamalu, DE Keionta Davis, DE Derek Rivers and CB Duke Dawson inactive for Super Bowl LIII against the Rams.
There are no notable games for the remarkably healthy Patriots. Ex-Texan Anderson will be on the outside looking in of a 53-man roster spot in 2019.

Texans TE coach John Perry said UDFA rookie Stephen Anderson has “taken advantage” of his opportunities.
“He’s come out and really put in a great effort every day,” Perry said. “He’s picked up things very quickly and, on top of that, he’s got great athleticism. He’s got good hands.” Anderson also earned praise earlier this offseason from coach Bill O’Brien, although the coach cautioned the “true test will come in training camp.” It is early, but it looks like Anderson has a great shot to crack the final roster.
