Carter (6'0/191) appeared in each of Alabama’s 13 games this season, tallying 43 total tackles (2.5 for loss), one forced fumble, one interception and seven pass breakups. Over the course of his career the defensive back played in 49 games, starting 22 at the STAR position in Alabama’s defense. He’ll likely got early on Day 3 at the latest come April, with Pro Football Network giving Carter a fourth-round grade ahead of the Vrbo Citrus Bowl.

Pro Football Focus listed Alabama senior DB Shyheim Carter on their SEC Team of the Week following his performance against Texas A&M.
Carter (6'0/195) is one of the most underrated DBs in the country. That sounds odd to say of an Alabama DB, but Carter’s do-it-all nature makes it tough for him to stand out in one particular way. Instead, he is sort of the glue that helps hold together the Crimson Tide’s defense. Carter has five passes defender and a forced fumble this season.

Alabama senior CB Shyheim Carter (undisclosed) practiced on Tuesday.
Carter (6'0/195) left Saturday’s win over Ole Miss for a trip to the medical tent, but was able to return to the contest shortly thereafter. That he was already back practicing on Tuesday is all kinds of encouraging. Alabama is currently on its bye week and Carter looks to have a good shot at playing against Texas A&M in Week 7, barring setback.

Alabama senior CB Shyheim Carter (undisclosed) left Saturday’s 59-31 victory against Ole Miss due to an undisclosed injury.
Carter (6'0/195) exited the game for a visit to the medical tent. Eventually he was able to return to the field, registering six tackles with a combined stop for loss. Head coach Nick Saban said after the game he didn’t believe the injury was a long-term issue. The Crimson Tide will enjoy a week to rest its ailments on a bye week before resuming play at Texas A&M on Oct. 12.

Alabama senior CB Shyheim Carter allowed the fewest yards per coverage snap in the SEC, according to Pro Football Focus.
Carter (6'0/195) allowed just 0.52 yards per snap in coverage, which narrowly beats out Eric Stokes and Maurice Smitherman for the top spot. The senior will be looking to improve his draft stock in 2019, but he’s certainly on track to be a 2020 draft pick. As a junior last year, Carter had 10 pass breakups and two pick-sixes across 12 games.

Alabama senior DB Shyheim Carter (torso) was wearing a black non-contact jersey during Saturday’s scrimmage.
Same as it ever was on this one. Carter (6'0/195) has been held out of contact work for the entirety of spring practice to date due to a reported sports hernia surgery which he underwent back in January. The senior defensive back registered 43 tackles (3.5 for loss), 10 passes defensed and two pick-sixes in 12 games during the past campaign. We’ll pass along word when he is cleared for contact.

Alabama senior DB Shyheim Carter (torso) was wearing a black non-contact jersey when the team opened spring practice on Friday.
Carter (6'0/195) reportedly underwent sports hernia surgery in January. AL.com’s Michael Casagrande passes along that he did not appear to labored on Friday, a nice sign that he might be able to get back to things in full in the near future. This past season, the senior posted 43 tackles (3.5 for loss), 10 passes defended and a pair of interceptions (both of which were returned for touchdowns) over the course of 12 games played.

AL.com’s Matt Zenitz reports that Alabama senior DB Shyheim Carter underwent sports hernia surgery on Friday.
Per Zenitz, Carter is expected to be ready for spring practice when the Crimson Tide machine creaks back to life in March. This past season was the nickel back’s most productive since he signed on with the program as a four-star recruit in the 2016 class. Across 12 games played in 2018, the then-junior logged 43 tackles (3.5 for loss) and 10 passes defended while running a pair of interceptions back for touchdowns. We’ll pass along word should Carter’s recovery take longer than initially thought, but for now, expect to see him back out there this spring.

Alabama finished with the nation’s No. 1 recruiting class.
All four of the most prominent recruiting services’ composite rankings pegged Alabama No. 1. Alabama, ranked around No. 10 by those sites heading into the day, vaulted up the rankings on Wednesday’s Signing Day, earning the signatures of five-star prospects LB Ben Davis, LB Mack Wilson, OL Charles Baldwin and OL Jonah Williams. In all, they landed 19 four- or five-star recruits, including four-star CB Shyheim Carter. “A good sized corner who plays bigger and faster than his listed measurables suggest,” reads ESPN’s scouting report. “Strong and physical both in pass coverage and run support. Runs well for his size showing very good football speed and range. Perhaps not a true burner but speed is not an issue and he offers great range.”
