Packers selected Appalachian State CB Shemar Jean-Charles with the No. 178 overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft.
Jean-Charles (5'10/184) was a two-year starter for App State. He earned first-team All-Sun Belt honors in 2020, racking up a whopping 16 passes defended to go along with one pick. Although small in stature, Jean-Charles plays with excellent zone eyes and discipline. Jean-Charles has a natural feel for playing off the quarterback’s rhythm and triggering down to break up passes. Zone coverage will be a must for Jean-Charles in the league, however. He does not have the smoothest hips or transitions, particularly at the top of route breaks in man coverage. Press is not his cup of tea, either. Jean-Charles could be a sneaky great Cover 2 cornerback with some potential for more, similar to Lavert Hill.
