Brandon Frye has been playing right guard with the first unit since Donald Thomas went down with a torn biceps two weeks ago.

Frye, signed off the Texans’ practice squad last season, is undersized but athletic. The Dolphins are also rotating Shawn Murphy in, and coach Tony Sparano indicated that he’s still most comfortable with last year’s starter Ike Ndukwe.

Murphy, a fourth-round pick last year, was inactive for his entire rookie season but had a standout spring. He’s ahead of Ikechuku Ndukwe and Donald Thomas on the depth chart. Murphy was a nasty run blocker in college.

Murphy had held down the job early in camp while Thomas recovered from his torn pectorals. Thomas’ return bodes well for Ronnie Brown, as he’s a more physical run blocker.
