Shawn Murphy has taken over as the Dolphins starting right guard while Donald Thomas recovers from a torn biceps.
Brandon Frye and Ike Ndukwe have also seen time with the first unit, but coach Tony Sparano now envisions Murphy remaining there until Thomas is fully recovered.
  • SEA Tackle
Brandon Frye has been playing right guard with the first unit since Donald Thomas went down with a torn biceps two weeks ago.
Frye, signed off the Texans’ practice squad last season, is undersized but athletic. The Dolphins are also rotating Shawn Murphy in, and coach Tony Sparano indicated that he’s still most comfortable with last year’s starter Ike Ndukwe.
  • Coach Tony Sparano says the Dolphins’ starting right guard job is Shawn Murphy’s to lose.
Murphy, a fourth-round pick last year, was inactive for his entire rookie season but had a standout spring. He’s ahead of Ikechuku Ndukwe and Donald Thomas on the depth chart. Murphy was a nasty run blocker in college.
  • Bucs claimed OG Shawn Murphy off waivers from the Dolphins.
Murphy, the Fins’ fourth-round pick in 2008, did not take to the tutelage of former OL coach Tony Sparano in Miami. We’d take that as a bad sign.
  • Dolphins waived OG Shawn Murphy.
Dale’s son spent part of the offseason working as Miami’s starting right guard while Donald Thomas recovered from a torn biceps. The 2008 fourth-rounder shouldn’t be out of work long.
  • FA Guard #66
Dolphins RG Donald Thomas (torn pectorals) has regained his starting job from Shawn Murphy.
Murphy had held down the job early in camp while Thomas recovered from his torn pectorals. Thomas’ return bodes well for Ronnie Brown, as he’s a more physical run blocker.

The Dolphins are still without an accomplished left guard opposite Justin Smiley.
The team rejected overtures from ex-Dolphin Jeno James and hasn’t returned phone calls from the agent of unsigned Chris Liwienski. Right now, the competition is between Drew Mormino, Shawn Murphy, and Donald Thomas.
  • The Dolphins plan to use fourth-round rookie Shawn Murphy at right guard.
“Whether that puts Justin [Smiley] at left guard, so be it,” Miami GM Jeff Ireland said. With the additions of Smiley, No. 1 pick Jake Long, and Murphy, the Dolphins’ offensive line could be resurgent for Ronnie Brown.
  • Dolphins signed fourth-round OG Shawn Murphy to a multi-year contract.
The Dolphins are blowing all other teams out of the water in terms of getting draft picks signed. Murphy, who is the son of former Atlanta Braves great Dale Murphy, will compete with Steve McKinney and Ike Ndukwe to start.
  • Eagles claimed OG Shawn Murphy off waivers from the Bucs.
Outside of Max Jean-Gilles, the Eagles don’t have veteran depth behind last year’s free agent disappointment Stacy Andrews. Murphy will compete for a roster spot inside during training camp.
