A second-round pick by the Dolphins in 1997, Madison spent nine years with the Dolphins as a player, earning first-team All-Pro honors twice and four Pro Bowl nods. He later won a Super Bowl with the Giants in the twilight of his career. Madison had been coaching under Chiefs DC Steve Spagnuolo the past three years but is heading back home to Miami.

They’ll only cut him if they find another cornerback. They are looking at Jason Webster of the 49ers. Cutting Madison would be a curious move because he sounds willing to restructure.

The team has already said they are keeping Brock Marion. Both players had a disappointing 2003 season.

Madison and Patrick Surtain were rightly upset that members of the organization questioned their practice habits last week in the Miami Herald. Madison and Surtain shut down the Patriots on Sunday and are playing well this season.

Madison wants to continue his playing career, but he’s still recovering from ankle surgery. If he doesn’t receive any opportunities this summer, the four-time Pro Bowler could land a coaching job on Spags’ staff.

Madison wasn’t enjoying a great season, but he’s the best cornerback on the team. The team was highly inexperienced without him out there.

Both were nicked up during Friday night’s game.

It looks like he will be replaced in the lineup by CB Reggie Howard, which is a major downgrade for Miami’s defense.

Madison has been out of practice all week. Reggie Howard is expected to start in Madison’s place.
