Colts receiver Pierre Garcon has just two catches on seven preseason targets.
Rookie Austin Collie has six grabs on seven intended passes to lead the Colts. It appears Collie, who plays mostly in the slot, is beating out Garcon for the third receiver job. If he keeps it up, expect Anthony Gonzalez to stay outside and run more vertical routes. Garcon would then focus on returns.
  • NYG Wide Receiver
Colts coach Jim Caldwell isn’t disclosing his choice for kickoff returns this week.
Sam Giguere “certainly caught our eye,” said Caldwell of the former Canadian college star’s Week 17 audition at Buffalo. Chad Simpson was the team’s main kickoff returner during the season.
  • NYG Wide Receiver
Colts signed WR Samuel Giguere off their practice squad.
Giguere was a standout in Canadian college football, even getting picked eighth overall in the 2008 CFL Draft. At 5'11/215, however, he has an odd body type for an NFL receiver. He’ll probably back up Austin Collie in the slot.
  • NYG Wide Receiver
The Colts are considering keeping WR/KR Sam Giguere on their playoff roster.
Giguere, who was just called up from the practice squad before Week 17, impressed the coaches as a kick returner and gunner on punt coverage. He won’t be factor in the passing game.
  • WAS Running Back
    Colts waived RB/KR Chad Simpson.
Though Mike Hart averaged just 2.7 yards per carry last season, the Colts were encouraged enough by his hard running down the stretch to part with Simpson. Former Canadian college star WR Sam Giguere is a candidate to take over kickoff returns.
  • NYG Wide Receiver
Colts president Bill Polian says the team has Samuel Giguere penciled in as their starting kickoff returner for 2010.
Starting cornerback Jerraud Powers is slated to return punts. Giguere appeared in just one game last year, returning five kicks for 122 yards (24.4 average) with a long of 36. He’s not a contributor for Indianapolis offensively.
  • IND Wide Receiver
Colts waived RB/KR Brandon James and WR Sam Giguere.
It looks like Devin Moore has beaten them both out for the kickoff specialist job. James was a star returner at Florida for four seasons, but Moore’s numbers were superior in limited exhibition action. Giguere’s best bet is to return to Canada to carve out a long career in the CFL.
  • NYG Running Back
Giants signed RB Charles Scott, CB Woodny Turenne, C Jim Cordle, LB Kenny Ingram, WR Samuel Giguere, and DT Dwayne Hendricks to reserve/future contracts.
Scott, a sixth-round pick by Philadelphia, bounced around practice squads this year and was tried at fullback. He’ll be very low on the offseason tailback depth chart. All of these players finished 2010 on New York’s practice squad.
  • NYG Wide Receiver
Colts WR Sam Giguere is listed as the first-team kickoff returner on the Colts’ unofficial training camp depth chart.
He’ll get a run for his money from undrafted rookie Brandon James, who is second on the depth cart for kickoff returns and first on the depth chart for punts.
  • FA Running Back #43
Colts RB/KR Devin Moore remains in the hunt for a roster spot.
Moore is competing with Ray Fisher, Brandon James, and Sam Giguere for the Colts’ return man job. So far in the preseason, Moore has averaged 32.3 yards on four kickoff returns. Moore has been seeing some time at RB and has excelled there as well, giving us reason to believe he’s the frontrunner of the group.
