Ryan Griffin (Achilles) is doubtful for Week 4 against the Giants.
Griffin didn’t practice after getting in a limited session on Wednesday. Cole Kmet is the Bears tight end to talk yourself into in a weak moment and then be disappointed by the bagel on. Griffin probably doesn’t even need to be rostered in deep leagues at this point.

Ryan Griffin (Achilles) did not practice Thursday.
It was a downgrade from a limited session on Wednesday, and could be an inauspicious sign for his availability on Sunday against the Giants. Griffin didn’t practice at any point last week. Trevon Wesco and Khari Blasingame split snaps against the Texans as extra blockers.

  • BAL Linebacker #0
Bears LB Roquan Smith (hip) is active for Week 3 against the Texans.
Smith didn’t practice all week, but the Bears are still playing him. Meanwhile, CB Jaylon Johnson (quad), a surprise DNP on Friday is out. Also inactive for the Bears are WR Velus Jones (hamstring), S Dane Cruikshank (hamstring), TE Ryan Griffin (Achilles), LB Matt Adams (hamstring), and OL Ja’Tyre Carter. The only interesting name here from a fantasy perspective is Jones, who hasn’t played in any of the first three contests of the season and has barely practiced with a long-term hamstring injury.

Ryan Griffin (Achilles) is out for Week 3 against the Texans.
This would open up targets for Cole Kmet if Cole Kmet were more than a mythological creature who exists only in our minds. Griffin didn’t practice all week and could be looking at a multiple-week absence.

  • FA Tight End #84
Ryan Griffin (Achilles) did not practice Wednesday.
Griffin played 53% of the snaps in Week 1 and 27% last Sunday night against the Packers. His one catch for 18 yards on three targets is one more catch and 18 yards more than Cole Kmet has to his name through two weeks.

  • FA Tight End #84
Bears signed TE Ryan Griffin, formerly of the Jets, to a one-year, $2.2 million contract.
According to Over the Cap, the deal includes $750,000 in guaranteed money. A nine-year veteran, Griffin posted a 27-261-2 receiving line over 14 games with the Jets last season. He is a solid veteran option behind likely starter Cole Kmet.

  • FA Tight End #84
    Jets released TE Ryan Griffin.
After signing C.J. Uzomah and Tyler Conklin in free agency, Griffin’s days on New York’s roster were numbered. The move will save the Jets roughly $3.2 million in cap space. Griffin was unable to much with a starting role in 2021, totaling a 27/261/2 receiving line across 14 games. A capable blocker with nearly a decade of experience under his belt, Griffin should be able to find work as a backup for the 2022 season.

  • FA Tight End #84
Jets coach Robert Saleh said TE Ryan Griffin (knee) is unlikely to play in Week 16 against the Jaguars.
Griffin posted a season-high, 39 receiving yards last week but was only targeted twice. He split snaps with Tyler Kroft, who was playing his first game back from a isn’t on injured reserve. Even with Griffin out, Kroft remains off the fantasy radar.

  • FA Tight End #84
Ryan Griffin caught 2-of-2 targets for 39 yards in the Jets’ Week 15 loss to the Dolphins.
The 39 yards matched Griffin’s season high, but Tyler Kroft played him to a production standstill (2/35) in his return from injured reserve. Griffin will be a last-gasp TE3 for Week 16 vs. the Jags.

  • Tight End #82
Jets designated Tyler Kroft (chest) to return from injured reserve.
This opens a 21-day window for the Jets to bring Kroft back to the active roster. Kroft’s return will put an end to Ryan Griffin’s stranglehold on three low-value weekly targets in the Jets’ passing game. Neither player is an option for the fantasy playoffs.
