  • HOU Defensive Lineman
The Bills have opened a competition for their left DE job between last year’s starter Ryan Denney and Chris Kelsay.
“It’s very close between those guys,” defensive coordinator Jerry Gray said. “Ryan and Chris are battling for that spot. It wouldn’t surprise me if that continues the rest of training camp.”
  • HOU Defensive Lineman
Bills DE Ryan Denney was carted off the field Friday.
One of the league’s best third ends, Denney’s loss would hurt the Bills after Anthony Hargrove’s 4-game suspension. His injury is unknown at this time.
  • HOU Defensive Lineman
Bills DE Ryan Denney suffered a fractured foot in Friday’s exhibition loss.
They’ll have to keep Anthony Hargrove now. Even though Denney doesn’t start, this is a major blow to an up-and-coming defense. The 6-7 Denney is a marvelous nickel rusher with starting-caliber talent. Look for Denney to miss the entire season and seventh-round pick C.J. Ah You to make the team.
  • FA Quarterback
J.P. Losman (knee) returned to practice Wednesday.
Losman reportedly “looked very limber” moving around on his previously sprained MCL. CB Ashton Youboty (ankle), LB Coy Wire (knee), and DE Ryan Denney (leg) were also back on the field. The Bills are on a bye this week.
  • HOU Defensive Lineman
Bills coach Dick Jauron estimates that third DE Ryan Denney (foot surgery) should be back after the team’s Week 6 bye.
The Bills would’ve placed Denney on injured reserve some time ago if they didn’t feel confident he’ll recovery quickly. Untested DE Eric Powell is filling in.
  • BUF Defensive Lineman #90
Bills DE Chris Kelsay (ankle) “appears to be questionable at best” to play against the Jets Sunday, according to the Buffalo News.
With Ryan Denney (foot) not expected back this weekend, Anthony Hargrove will likely pick up a start. It would be good news for Thomas Jones’ matchup.
  • HOU Defensive Lineman
Bills DE Ryan Denney will undergo surgery for a broken foot on Monday.
This sounds like a Lisfranc fracture, but that isn’t confirmed. The Bills remain confident that Denney will make it back at some point this season and won’t place him on I.R. right away. Chris Kelsay and Aaron Schobel will see increased workloads early in the year, which could bolster their IDP values.
  • HOU Defensive Lineman
The Bills revealed Monday that DE Ryan Denney broke the fifth metatarsal in his left foot before undergoing surgery.
This is the same injury that cost DT John McCargo 11 games in 2006, but it isn’t a Lisfranc break. However, Denney seems unlikely to play this year.
  • HOU Defensive Lineman
Bills DE Ryan Denney (foot surgery) has been ruled out for Week 7.
The Bills had hoped that Denney would return after their Week 6 bye, but he still isn’t healthy. Anthony Hargrove is serving as Buffalo’s third end.
  • HOU Defensive Lineman
Bills declared DE Ryan Denney, S John Wendling, S George Wilson, LB Keith Ellison, OL Duke Preston, DT Tim Anderson, and RB Fred Jackson inactive for Week 1.
Denney’s earliest possible return date from foot surgery is Week 7.
