G Will Montgomery is a “near-lock” to earn the Redskins’ final backup spot on the offensive line.
Montgomery battled Rueben Riley and D’Anthony Batiste throughout camp and impressed coach Jim Zorn the most. “Will has made his move that he’s going to be part of this team. He’s been tough as nails,” said Zorn.
  • Panthers signed OL Rueben Riley.
Riley isn’t likely to hang around long.
  • Dolphins signed OL Rueben Riley and waived OT Julius Wilson.
There were high hopes for Wilson at one point, but he may be too raw to contribute in the league yet. Riley was waived by Carolina early on.
  • Panthers released OGs Toniu Fonoti, Milford Brown, and Evan Mathis, and OTs Geoff Schwartz, and Rueben Riley.
The team talked up Fonoti as a potential starter all offseason, but he was unable to beat out veteran Keydrick Vincent. They elected to go with rookie Mackenzy Bernardeau rather than the veteran linemen.
  • WAS Wide Receiver
Redskins signed WR Marques Hagans, P Zac Atterberry, LS Jeremy Cain, FB Jonathan Evans, CB Michael Grant, OL Rueben Riley, OL Isaiah Ross, and LB Tyson Smith to reserve/future contracts.
With position versatility, Riley isn’t a bad guy for the Skins to take a chance on when they’re desperate for young linemen. Grant has great speed, but probably is too raw to help yet. Hagans is a fourth-year journeyman.
  • ARI Tackle
    Giants re-signed OT Cliff Louis.
The Giant offensive line has been beset by injuries thus far in training camp. Fellow lineman Rueben Riley was cut to make room for Louis, who figures to be practice squad fodder at this stage.
