Panthers signed S Rudy Ford, formerly of the Packers.
The team released safety Clayton Isbell in a corresponding move. Ford, soon to be 30 years old, spent the past two seasons in Green Bay. He totaled five interceptions and nine pass breakups across 30 games with the Packers. Ford is a versatile third safety who will slot into a part-time role with the Panthers out of the gate.
  • GB Linebacker #59
Packers LB De’Vondre Campbell (neck) is questionable for Week 12 against the Lions.
Campbell did not practice on Monday or Tuesday but got back for a full session on Wednesday. The Packers only held walkthroughs this week, so all three of his reports were estimations. Still, a full practice suggests he is good to go for Week 12. Safety Rudy Ford was limited in practice throughout the week and listed as questionable to play.
  • GB Cornerback #23
Packers CB Jaire Alexander (shoulder) is questionable for Week 11 against the Chargers.
Alexander got in back-to-back limited practices to close the week. He missed Week 10 with the shoulder issue and has been sidelined for other games this year because of various injuries. Given his recent injury history, the Packers could hold him out for another week to get him closer to full strength. Safety Rudy Ford was listed as doubtful because of a bicep injury.
  • FA Safety #37
    Jaguars released S Rudy Ford.
NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reports “multiple” teams this offseason tried to trade for Ford, considered a special teams ace, but his $2 million salary proved prohibitive. Look for Ford to sign with another team in the next few days. He could get defensive snaps too, depending on his landing spot.

  • FA Safety #37
Jaguars signed S Rudy Ford, formerly of the Eagles, to a two-year, $4.2 million contract.
Ford was primarily a gunner on special teams with the Eagles, totaling 21 tackles across 351 snaps with that unit the past two seasons. It’s another addition to accommodate Jacksonville’s lackluster special teams, which coach Urban Meyer has clearly prioritized in improving this offseason.

  • FA Safety #37
Eagles placed S Rudy Ford (abdomen) on injured reserve.
Ford’s 2019 season will come to an end. The primary special teamer saw extended snaps on defense in Week 11 but isn’t a starting-level player. In a corresponding move, the Eagles promoted WR Greg Ward to the active roster, putting Nelson Agholor or Alshon Jeffery at risk of not playing Week 12.
  • FA Safety #37
Eagles acquired S Rudy Ford from the Cardinals in exchange for DT Bruce Hector.
A 2017 sixth-rounder, Ford made 13 appearances last season, including a start. Evidently he wasn’t a fit for DC Vance Joseph’s program. Both players were surely on the outside looking in of their respective 53-man rosters. The fact that the Eagles went out and got him would suggest Ford has a strong chance of making the squad in Philly. He should start out as a core special teamer.
  • FA Safety #37
Cardinals selected Auburn S Johnathan Ford with the No. 208 overall pick in the 2017 NFL draft.
Ford (5’11/205) made 34 starts in the Tigers’ secondary after converting from running back as a freshman, seeing action at nickel corner and safety and amassing 11.5 career tackles for loss with five interceptions. Ford led Auburn in tackles in two of his three years as a starter. He blazed 4.4-flat at the Tigers’ Pro Day. A standout special teamer throughout college, Ford’s ability to run down kicks and punts increases his chances of being an early contributor.
  • FA Safety #37
Cardinals signed S Rudy Ford to a four-year contract.
Fifth-rounders T.J. Logan and OT Will Holden also agreed to deals. A converted running back, Ford is a hard hitting safety/corner project that should contribute on special teams. The Cardinals have signed all seven of their draft picks.
