Barksdale

The Albany product is an amazing story, walking onto the football team as a senior.

Barksdale was a senior walk-on at Albany, and could end up developing on the practice squad.

Barksdale is a project and probably won’t help much in the base defense.

Not an ideal landing spot. He’ll have to beat out at least Ahmad Carroll, Drew Coleman, Marquice Cole, and possibly Donald Strickland to make the Jets.

Barksdale, who spent most of last season on the practice squad, lost his roster spot when the team signed rookie Stoney Woodson.

Barksdale just had too many bodies to leap over to make the team. Jets also waived OL Stanley Daniels, T Nevin McCaskill, TE Kevin Brock, WR Britt Davis, T Ryan McKee, TE Kareem Brown, K Parker Douglass, C Michael Parenton, RB Jehuu Caulcrick, WR Marcus Henry, DE Zach Potter, FB Brock Christopher, RB Anthony Kimble, TE Jack Simmons, S Emanuel Cook, DL Matt Kroul, LB Kenwin Cummings, and DL Ty Steinkuhler.

Allan was a seventh-rounder out of Whitworth last year. His profile coming out was a bit similar to Kevin Boss’, but Allan hasn’t mustered the same kind of magic. Barth’s release locks in Nick Novak as the NFL’s worst starting kicker.

Highsmith spent time on the active roster in 2008 and 2009, seeing action as a special teamer. The Cards are currently very thin at inside ‘backer, so the former LSU Tiger figures to be directly in the mix for a job in 2010.

Barksdale replaced Sam Madison, who broke his right ankle in Week 17.

Barksdale is an easy guy to pull for. After all, he managed to get drafted in 2007 after walking on to Albany’s football team as a senior. Unfortunately, he’s yet to make an impact at the NFL level.
