After a weekend in which the pervasive presence of Wrangler commercials featuring Brett Favre raised eyebrows in light of the tawdry off-field tale of potential sexual harassment that dominated the headlines on October 9 and 10, the folks who make the only jeans Favre wears when throwing interceptions on the sandlot yanked the commercials from Sunday’s NFL broadcasts.
According to Darren Rovell of CNBC, the Favre spot ran yesterday only 10 times -- and only on niche channels. During NFL broadcasts, Wrangler commercials featured Dale Earnhardt, Jr.
The folks at Wrangler previously had taken a wait-and-see approach regarding Favre. Apparently, they waited long enough to see something that caused them to change their stance.
It could be that the news the league will meet with Favre on Tuesday triggered the change. Or, possibly, the folks at Wrangler are suspicious that the lack of cooperation (to date) from the woman at the center of the controversy resulted from a transfer of a sizable chunk of Favre’s Wrangler money.
