As the trial of Willie Clark, the man who allegedly shot and killed former Broncos cornerback Darrent Williams, begins in Denver, the first witness called by the prosecution testified that the problems began on the evening of December 31, 2006 when receiver Brandon Marshall’s cousin, Blair Clark sprayed a bottle of champagne over the crowd at midnight, according to Lindsay Jones of the Denver Post.
The testimony was given by John Sheppard, a lifelong friend of Darrent Williams, who was at the club on the night in question.
During opening statements, prosecutor Bruce Levin said that Clark and Marshall “were involved in multiple verbal and physical confrontations” with the defendant and the defendant’s associates before Williams was shot.
Meanwhile, the testimony from Sheppard makes the subsequent behavior of former Broncos receiver Javon Walker, who now plays for the Raiders, even more dumbfounding. In June 2008, Walker was beaten and robbed in Las Vegas after a night of, you guessed it, spraying champagne on people in a night club.
Walker was sitting with Darrent Williams in the limo when the shots were fired, and Williams died in Walker’s arms. Walker possibly will be testifying during Clark’s trial.
