Buccaneers running back Doug Martin has made it clear that he hated his “Muscle Hamster” nickname and was ready to move on.
Wednesday, he told reporters he has a new nickname.
“Dougernaut.”
Martin REALLY hated being called Muscle Hamster. Last summer, he called it “the worst nickname ever given to somebody.” The Muscle Hamster nickname was given to Martin during his days at Boise State and blew up when Martin did during a big rookie season in 2012.
Martin told PFT Live on NBC Sports Radio last week that he was open to suggestions for a new nickname and that he was just “waiting for a new [nickname] to emerge.”
“Dougernaut” was suggested, and Martin is going with it.
R.I.P., Muscle Hamster.
