Will Levis: I have to be a better leader

Titans rookie quarterback Will Levis had a terrific debut, tossing four touchdowns in his team’s 28-23 win over the Falcons.

But things haven’t gone quite as well since then, as Tennessee has lost its last two games. The Titans scored 16 points against the Steelers in Week 9 and just six points in last Sunday’s loss to the Buccaneers.

As he prepares to start his fourth game, Levis said it’s on him to get the offense going again, even as there’s some significant shuffling along the offensive line.

I have to be a leader,” Levis said Wednesday, via Jim Wyatt of the team’s website. “My leadership role has to step up. I have to instill confidence in these guys, regardless of who it is, whatever five is out there, that they know I have my full trust in them.

“I have to do a better job as a leader of bringing them along.”

What does that look like?

“At the very least, if you want to be a good leader you have to be someone who leads by example and works hard and does the right things and is able to be someone that people can come to and ask questions to,” Levis said.

“I feel like in everything that I’ve done, I’ve always wanted to be at the forefront, in the [driver’s] seat. I think I have that innate ability to bring others with me. It’s a tough job to have, but I like having the tough jobs. It’s just kind of how I’m wired, I guess, and I have to keep finding ways to be a better leader.”

Through three games, Levis has completed 56 percent of his passes for 699 yards with four touchdowns and two interceptions. We’ll see if Levis and the Tennessee offense can get back on track against division-rival Jacksonville this weekend.
