On Thursday, North Carolina coach Bill Belichick met with the media for the first time in his new capacity.
He was asked whether, after a year or two of success, he would return to the NFL.
“I didn’t come here to leave,” Belichick said, prompting applause in the room.
It’s the latest sign that Belichick is done with the NFL, in large part because the NFL was done with him. He won’t be making a quick return, or any return, to the NFL.
Or maybe he’s just saying what he has to say, like most college football coaches do.
Regardless, we’ll see how many years this lasts; Belichick said he plans on doing it a “long time.”
