Patriots receiver Wes Welker had another huge game on Sunday, and afterward he reflected on just what an amazing start to the season he has had.

“I feel like this is the best I’ve ever felt, this is the best I’ve played in my career,” Welker said. “So I think just my attitude towards the game and the work I put into it on a daily basis, and understand that this is my job and taking it very seriously, and training and everything that I’ve been able to do has helped out this year. We’ve just got to keep it going and understand that it’s just the first quarter of the season, and we have a long ways to go.”

Welker is understating things when he says this is the best he’s ever played. What Welker is doing right now might be the best anyone has ever played the wide receiver position. Welker has 40 catches for 616 yards, putting him on pace to finish the season at 160 catches and 2,464 yards, which would shatter the current NFL records.

But Welker says he’s not thinking about his stats, he’s just thinking about going out there and playing well.

“I don’t know what I’ve averaged to this point or anything like that, but I feel like my speed is definitely something I’ve worked on this offseason,” he said, “and my dieting and everything I’ve tried to do to be the best football player I can be out there.”

Welker is one of the best football players in the NFL right now.
