We mentioned in the one-liners yesterday that Forbes had named a pair of Vikings atop its list of most overpaid players in the NFL.
They’re clearly crushed.
Jerome Felton, the fullback who accumulated no rushing stats but helped Adrian Peterson compile many of them, was dubbed the most overpaid, with his new three-year, $7.5 million deal. Tight end John Carlson, who signed a five-year, $25 million last year, battled injuries and caught eight passes, was second.
“Wow,” Felton said, via Tom Pelissero of USA Today. “I don’t care.”
“That’s impressive,” Carlson said. “Two guys on the same team.”
Carlson actually took a pay cut this offseason, giving back $1.4 million in base salary.
“People are going to say lots of stuff in the media,” Carlson said. “That’s what you guys are paid to do, right? I don’t read that stuff, whether it’s good or bad. I choose to stay away from it. My focus is on trying to be as good a player as well and earn the respect of my teammates and my coaches.”
Felton, who bounced from the Lions to the Panthers to the Colts before finding a comfortable spot in front of Peterson, takes pride in the 2,097 yards the guy behind him gained.
“If I can stay out of his way,” Felton said, “hopefully he can get 2,500 yards. According to Forbes.”
If that happens, he might actually deserve a raise.
