Geno Smith’s struggles persist.

The Jets’ starting quarterback was picked by Vikings linebacker Gerald Hodges on the game’s first offensive play on Sunday, and Hodges took it back for a 27-yard touchdown, giving Minnesota a 7-0 lead 12 seconds into the contest.

It was a wonderful individual play by Hodges, who reached back with his left hand to snag the pass intended for Percy Harvin, batted the ball to himself and secured the pick.

The turnover was Smith’s 14th in 10 games in a campaign where early promise has given way to below-average play.

The good news for the Jets? Their defense just made a big play, tackling Vikings quarterback Teddy Bridgewater in the endzone, cutting the deficit to 7-2 less than five minutes into the game in chilly Minneapolis.
