Vick on pace for 4,000 passing yards, 1,000 rushing yards

The Philadelphia Eagles have been such a disaster this season that it’s easy to overlook what an impressive season Michael Vick is having on an otherwise disappointing team.

Vick is on pace to do something no NFL player has ever done: Throw for 4,000 yards and run for 1,000 yards in a single season.

With 1,336 passing yards through five games, Vick is on pace for 4,275 passing yards on the season. That would be more than 1,000 yards better than Vick’s previous career high of 3,018, which he totaled last year.

And with 318 rushing yards through five games, Vick is on pace for 1,017 rushing yards on the season. Vick is already the only quarterback in NFL history to run for 1,000 yards in a season, and this year he has a good chance of doing it twice.

Of course, staying healthy enough to play 16 games won’t be easy if the Eagles’ offensive line doesn’t improve. And if the Eagles’ defense doesn’t improve, Vick is going to be playing in a lot of meaningless games in December.

But for as bad as the Eagles have been this year, Vick is doing things that no other NFL quarterback has done.
