Troy Smith among cuts as Ravens get down to 53

The Baltimore Ravens are down to the 53-man roster limit, and one of the players sent packing was the former Heisman Trophy-winning quarterback Troy Smith.

In a press release sent out by the team, G.M. Ozzie Newsome explained that the Ravens thought keeping just two quarterbacks, Joe Flacco and Marc Bulger, was the best way to trim the roster.

“The competition to make our team was very heated, and we decided to keep a position player rather than a third quarterback,” Newsome said. “We have a number of young guys who made our team who have tremendous upside, plus they can help us win this year. We’ve gone with two quarterbacks before.”

The Ravens announced several other cuts, most of which we already told you about here.
