Trey McBride catches first TD of 2024, blocked extra point keeps Rams lead at 10-6

Down by 10 to start the second half, the Cardinals faced little resistance on their way down the field to scoring a touchdown.

Trey McBride’s first receiving touchdown of the year got Arizona on the board. But a blocked extra point kept the score at 10-6 midway through the third quarter.

Kyler Murray moved the chains on third-and-2 with a 14-yard pass to McBride, moving the Cardinals into Rams territory.

McBride then moved the chains again with a 7-yard reception on third-and-5.

Murray’s 12-yard scramble down to the 7 made it first-and-goal. Then on third-and-goal from the 2, the Rams gave up a new set of downs with a defensive holding call.

On second-and-goal, McBride got into the end zone with a screen pass to the left side. It was McBride’s 98th catch of the season, which is a new NFL record for a player to catch his first touchdown of the year, according to ESPN.

But Rams outside linebacker Michael Hoecht was able to block the extra point, keeping Los Angeles’ lead at four points. Cornerback Josh Wallace picked up the block and nearly had a chance to return it for a two-point play, but was tackled before he could get too far down the field.
