Tommy DeVito throws two TDs, Giants lead 14-9 at halftime

The Commanders pass rush has gotten to Tommy DeVito for six sacks, but he’s done plenty of damage when he’s had time to throw the ball.

The undrafted rookie has gone 14-of-19 for 189 yards and two touchdowns through the first two quarters of play in Washington. The Commanders were able to get into the end zone on a Sam Howell run shortly before halftime, but the Giants still lead 14-9 at the break.

Howell had to be checked for a concussion after a late hit by Giants safety Xavier McKinney on that scoring run, but he was cleared to remain in the game. Commanders wide receiver Curtis Samuel and Giants cornerback Cor’Dale Flott will not be back in the second half, however. Both players were ejected for throwing punches in a melee that followed McKinney’s hit.

Howell is 13-of-18 for 115 yards and an interception and Commanders tight end Logan Thomas also lost a fumble. Those miscues and the defense’s inability to stop DeVito from making big plays in the air have the home team in need of a change of fortune in the second half.
