The report released earlier this month by authorities in King County, Washington contains pages and pages of information regarding the relationship between now-former Giants kicker Josh Brown and his then-wife, Molly.

The file includes, among other things, a 58-page transcript of an interview of Molly Brown. During the interview, Molly Brown says this about the extent to which one of Josh’s former teammates was aware of the violent nature of the relationship: “My friend Sarah Hasselbeck, she was just like crying and holding me and . . . and she’s like one of the people that I trusted the most and -- and Matt [Hasselbeck] just didn’t believe me.”

Josh Brown and Matt Hasselbeck were teammates in Seattle from 2003 through 2007. The Browns and Hasselbecks thereafter were neighbors in Washington.

Molly Brown also told the authorities that the letter Josh wrote admitting to abusive behavior was sent to Sarah and Matt Hasselbeck and other neighbors. These specific contentions are consistent with Molly Brown’s claim that several teammates were aware of the abusive nature of the relationship, but that none of them took action to put a stop to it.

Matt Hasselbeck’s involvement has escaped widespread attention -- until his brother, Tim, attempted to address the situation during a weekly visit with WEEI’s Kirk & Callahan Show.

The interview, which was brought to PFT’s attention by Ryan Glasspiegel of TheBigLead.com, was at times defensive and at other times rambling and at other times combative and at all times awkward.

Most significantly, Tim Hasselbeck said that the suggestion that Molly Brown complained about abuse to Josh Brown is “completely false.” However, Tim Hasselbeck never denied that Matt Hasselbeck received a letter in which Josh Brown admitted to abusing Molly Brown.

The 16-minute, 50-second interview is worth a full listen. Understandably, Tim Hasselbeck is protecting his brother. Ultimately, his brother is the one who should be answering the questions about what he did and didn’t know, especially since until last year Matt Hasselbeck remained employed by an NFL team.

Glasspiegel pointed out that Matt Hasselbeck previously has declined comment through ESPN, and that a new request for comment has been made in the wake of Tim’s position that Molly Brown at no time told Matt Hasselbeck about the abusive nature of the relationship.
