The Texans got as much work done as possible before any long, cold, work stoppage.

John McClain of the Houston Chronicle reports defensive tackle Shaun Cody will return on a two-year, $5.75 million contract with $1.5 million guaranteed. The move will surprise some Texans fans because Cody didn’t exactly stand out last season. (Although the coaching staff liked him.)

New Texans defensive coordinator Wade Phillips believes Cody can transition to nose tackle in the team’s new 3-4 defense. He will share those duties with youngster Earl Mitchell.

The Texans also re-signed tight end Owen Daniels and running back Derrick Ward on Thursday.
