Still no talks between Bosa, Chargers

Joey Bosa still hasn't signed with the San Diego Chargers, and Mike Florio says that one of the two sides needs to give in.

Another day, another non-update regarding the talks between the Chargers and defensive end Joey Bosa.

Per a source with knowledge of the situation, the Chargers and Bosa still haven’t spoken since Thursday. That’s the day the Chargers made their latest offer, Bosa’s camp countered within 90 minutes, and the Chargers essentially followed up by asking, “Are you sure?”

Apparently, both sides are sure. And they remain sure. And there’s no middle ground or other area of compromise, because rookie deals have so few points for potential negotiation -- and because the two sides are at impasse on both of them.

Meanwhile, multiple players have gone public with concerns that Bosa is missing valuable reps, including Corey Liuget and King Dunlap. Earlier this week, quarterback Philip Rivers took a more tactful and measured response.

“My approach has always been, ‘Shoot, these guys are our teammates,’” Rivers told reporters. “And then it’s not normal football. There is that business side to it. So it’s not like anybody in there is upset at him. When he gets here, he’ll trot out there and we’ll play like he’s been here the whole time.”

That day inevitably is going to come. We think. Later today, I’ll break down the relevant deadlines and options, in the event both sides dig in for the long haul and Bosa becomes the first draft pick to miss regular-season games since Michael Crabtree in 2009.
