The Cowboys won for the fourth time in their last five games on Sunday night and that left team owner Jerry Jones feeling giddy about the job being done by head coach Mike McCarthy even though the team has no chance to make the playoffs.
Executive vice president Stephen Jones said on 105.3 The Fan on Monday that he shares his father’s feelings about the work that McCarthy has been doing this season. Jones also said that the positive reviews of McCarthy’s work would not speed up any discussion about signing him to a new contract for the 2025 season and beyond.
“He’s doing a great job right now,” Jones said, via Jon Machota of TheAthletic.com. “There are a lot of teams who would have dysfunction with their season being over. Mike has kept the group together. Not surprising. . . . We’ll start worrying about the future when we’re through playing the Commanders on our last football game of the year.”
Jones also said he thinks winning out and finishing the year 9-8 would mean a lot to the team now and in the future, although it will remain unclear if that will be enough for the team to welcome McCarthy back for a little while longer.
