Steelers bring back Jarvis Jones from injured reserve

Jones

Twelve weeks after suffering a broken wrist during a Sunday night game against the Panthers, Steelers linebacker Jarvis Jones has returned to the active roster.

The Steelers announced on Saturday that Jones, a first-round pick in 2013, has been activated from injured reserve, with designation to return. Every NFL team can apply the designation to one player per year.

To create a roster spot for Jones, the Steelers placed cornerback Cortez Allen on injured reserve, even though Allen was listed as probable with a thumb injury for Sunday’s game at Cincinnati.

Allen signed a four-year, $26 million contract extension in September. As noted by Ray Fittipaldo of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, Allen was demoted after a loss at Cleveland, played as a reserve in two games, and then didn’t appear at all in any of the last four contests.

Jones’ return comes at an opportune time for the Steelers, given that veteran linebacker James Harrison (who came out of retirement after Jones landed on temporary injured reserve) will miss the Week 14 game with a knee injury.
