Here’s one for the NFL jersey historians and aficionados.

According to sketches posted by Paul Lukas of Uni-Watch.com, Reebok created a prototype black alternate uniform for the Vikings in 2003. At the time, Reebok was licensed to make NFL jerseys and outfitted Minnesota for the ’03 season. (A hat tip to Deadspin for pointing out the black alternate jersey.)

The Vikings have traditionally worn purple or white jersey tops. The club redesigned its uniforms in 2013, keeping the purple, gold and white color scheme.

Multiple clubs, including the Cardinals, Lions and Eagles, have worn black jerseys over the years. The Vikings haven’t made the leap just yet, though the idea at least made it to the drawing board more than a decade ago.
