Mike Shanahan said during training camp that he wouldn’t announce his starting quarterback until “right before” kickoff of the Redskins’ Week 1 game against the Giants. Instead, Shanahan has announced it six days in advance: He’s going with Rex Grossman.

The Redskins’ head coach confirmed today that Grossman won the starting job over John Beck, confirming previous reports that the job was Grossman’s.

For most of the offseason, Beck was considered the frontrunner for the job, as Shanahan and his son and offensive coordinator, Kyle Shanahan, had seemingly fallen in love with Beck’s potential to run their offense.

But ultimately, Shanahan has gone with the more experienced option. He’s going with Grossman.
