Sean McDermott: Josh Allen continues to show why he should be MVP

Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson’s Christmas performance led to days of discussion about whether he should supplant Bills quarterback Josh Allen as the MVP favorite and Allen got his chance to answer on Sunday.

Allen ran for one touchdown and threw for two more as the Bills blasted the Jets 40-14 to clinch the No. 2 seed in the AFC playoffs. His other stats weren’t particularly gaudy, but Allen has had plenty of those days this season and head coach Sean McDermott took some time to stump for his guy during a postgame press conference on Sunday.

McDermott said he has a hard time believing any player has done more to show that he deserves the MVP award more than Allen has this season.

“I think Josh Allen continues to show why he should be the MVP,” McDermott said.

McDermott said the team will discuss how to approach Week 18 in terms of resting players, so we’ll have to wait to find out if Allen will get a chance to burnish his case and it will be an even longer wait to see what voters decide about the NFL’s biggest individual award.
